UM's Dr. Kevin McGregor is at the forefront of microbiome research, developing advanced statistical models to help decode complex microbial data.

Better understanding how changes in the body’s microbiome drive diseases like Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis could pave the way for more targeted, personalized therapies — and even preventative medicine.
University of Manitoba’s Dr. Kevin McGregor is at the forefront of this effort, developing advanced statistical models that help researchers decode complex microbial data.
His research team is enabling scientists to pinpoint which microorganisms are most strongly linked to specific diseases, improving our ability to diagnose, monitor, and treat chronic illnesses tied to the microbiome.
"This is an extremely popular field of study at the moment, as changes in the composition of the intestinal microbiome have been shown to be associated with all sorts of diseases.”
