Microplastics are everywhere, but what's their true impact?

McGill University researchers have created a new technique that replicates microplastics in the lab, allowing scientists to better understand how these particles behave and affect living organisms.

By using advanced polymer chemistry and controlled degradation methods, the team can now generate microplastics that closely mimic real-world particles in size, shape, and chemical composition.

The breakthrough will help researchers test how microplastics move through water, soil, and the human body — and how to mitigate their impacts.

“We  regularly see news about microplastics in our bodies or the environment. While this news is scary, we have yet to fully comprehend their effects in these places.”
