UBC Okanagan researchers find that fasting — low-carb fasting in particular —may not have the same effect on all body types.
Low-carb diets like the ketogenic diet are growing in popularity because they force the body to burn fat. These diets are also believed to improve the immune system and reduce chronic inflammation, which is linked to many diseases.
“These diet trends continue to grow in popularity. But our study found that people with obesity may respond to fasting differently than leaner individuals, especially in how their immune systems react.”
